| Fat Horse Gallery An online gallery makes spiritual, cultural art accessible to all. Fat Horse Gellery is an exclusive online art gallery that showcases one-of-a-kind peices from around the world. This spring, Fat Horse Gallery opened its virtual doors in cyberspace at www.fathorse.com. The boutique art gallery distinguishes itself form other online galleries by featuring three intimate collections of one-of-a-kind Contemporary, Native American and Folk Art pieces from around the world, all sharing the common thread of cultural and spiritual influences. Arizona native, Deidre Larrabee, a former healthcare executive, abandoned her 20-year professional career to pursue her lifelong dream of owning an art gallery. The choice to open a virtual gallery stemmed from larrabee's desire to give art lovers access to pieces that are mainly found in remote regions of the American Southwest, Mexico and Europe, but are sought after by collectors around the world. Larrabee describes the eclectic collection as "art for the spirit." Larrabee says the site aims to create a solid relationship with customers, offering special perks such as detailed phone descriptions, featured articles, interviews with artists and a customer-friendly return policy. Interested shoppers also have the option of receiving additional photographs of favored high-end pieces by mail. In addition to filling a void in the art collector's marketplace, a portion of the gallery's profits are donated to children's charities. Larrabee, who has traveled extensively through the American southwest, Mexico, and Europe, has gathered her own impressive collection of sculptures, paintings, pottery, Native American jewelry, kachinas and fetishes. Her finds have been so highly acclaimed by friends, colleagues and art collectors, that Fat Horse Gallery is her response to what she saw as high demand. "I have met people from all over the world, who have seen my pieces and wondered where they are from. No matter where people live, the aesthetic of these cultural pieces touches them," she says. Notable artists whose work is echibited in the gallery include contemporary artists Phil Brennion, Carol Bowles, Jim Anonius, Sue Anne Reed and Denise Linet; and Native American artists Clarence Chama, Douglas Nava, Lorraine Waatsa, Hayes Leekya and Dennis Edaakie. Additionally, Fat Horse Gallery features unique folk art, such as artifacts from New Guinea and Africa, and rare Huichol beaded art. |
