Did you know that...

3.2% of marriages and common-law unions in Canada involve individuals from two different cultural groups

87.5% of these mixed relationships involve a White and a visible minority, and the other 12.5% members of two different minority groups

among White/visible minority couples, the White partner is the man in 53% of cases

the visible minority group most likely to marry, or cohabit, out are Japanese Canadians, 70% of whom are involved in a mixed union

Latin Americans and Blacks have slightly lower rates of intermarriage, 45% and 43% respectively, followed by Filipinos, Southeast Asians, and Arabs/West Asians at 33%, 26% and 24%

the lowest outmarriage rates among visible minorities are found for Koreans, Chinese, and South Asians, of whom only 18%, 16% and 13% are in mixed relationships

individuals in mixed unions tend to be younger, better educated, and more likely to be born outside Canada than members of the general population

mixed couples are more likely than other couples to have children (60% versus 57%)

the rate of mixed unions is higher in Canada than in the United States, where only 2% of couples include members of two different cultural groups
