Woburn, Massachusetts Student Wins Big For Big Idea
Priynk Patel wins $500 Gamestop grant for his service project, Woburn Multi-Cultural event

Priynk Patel, age 14, won a $500 grant, sponsored by GameStop, for his community service project, the Woburn Multi-Cultural Event.

As a first-generation Indian-American citizen, Patel wants to expose the citizens of Woburn, Massachusetts to the various cultures that are part of this community. The Multi-Cultural Event will focus on raising awareness of cultural traditions in the hope that people will become more accepting of their differences.

“We’ve always wanted to find a way, other than educational video games, to inspire a movement of socially responsible young people. Through the GameStop Youth Grants, we will provide the necessary support for those who have recognized a quantifiable issue in their community and believe that they can do something to rectify the issue,” says R. Richard Fontaine, CEO of GameStop.

The grants were given to 30 young people (under the age of 25). Twenty-six of the winners were from the United States and four from Canada.

“Priynk knew exactly how he could rock the world and change it for the better. He has the energy, the motivation, and the drive. With the help of GameStop, he now has more resources to do it,” says Nancy Lublin, CEO of Do Something, Inc.

Do Something, a not-for-profit 501(c)(3), inspires, supports and celebrates young people changing the world. When kids are active citizens, they develop lifelong leadership skills and character. For more information about GameStop grants and other programs, check out www.dosomething.org.
