The company was founded by Tracy Jackson, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in 1999, with the launch of the website just 6 months ago. "I have always been a compassionate person and cared very deeply about other people." she says, "Yet, I'm not quite sure if I ever really knew the depth of my compassion until I became a mother...especially one in a multiracial family. That was the moment compassion met reality in my life." Tracy is Caucasian and her husband is African American. Their two daughters are 10 and 6 years old. "On the day that I was blessed with my first child. not only was I given a larger heart, broader shoulders and an extra dose of patience, I was given a new pair of eyes to see the world in a brand new light," adds Tracy.
"Children Around the World" tapestry pillow. With a heightened awareness of her environment she realized that there were so few products that included children of different ethnic backgrounds or diverse abilities and she wondered what type of negative impact this was having on our children.
This eventually lead Tracy to her passion and her dream of opening an online store, iMeltingPot.com. A store sensitive to the needs and desires of our multicultural community and to help parents, teachers and friends become more aware of the products they buy. Immediate plans for iMeltingPot.com are to launch a consulting program in February with the main focus on educational products. Tracy feels that "the most important people to affect are the children and getting in the schools is going to be the fastest and most effective way to reach them."
